If you have a large lawn you want to be cut sharp in as little time as possible, then you should learn how to use a grooming mower like the Frontier GM1190R Grooming Mower (US CA).
A grooming mower is designed to be used on a turf grass environment like a lawn or athletic field. It has sharp blades that give tender turf grass a sharp cut. By contrast, a rotary cutter is designed to work in rough areas like pasture and brush and will cut material much thicker than turf grass.
In this video, you’ll learn how to hook up the grooming mower using the iMatchTM Quick Hitch (US CA) we added to a John Deere 4066R Compact Utility Tractor (US CA). The iMatch makes hooking up compatible implements as easy as it can possibly be. We’ll also show you how to hook up the PTO shaft, which transmits power from the tractor to the grooming mower.
Once it’s attached, you should adjust the pitch of the grooming mower from front to back using the top link adjustment on your tractor’s 3-point hitch. The front of the mower should be slightly lower than the rear to make sure grass cuttings don’t bunch up under the mower deck.
Finally, you can adjust the cutting height by adding or removing spacers on the caster wheel shafts. In this video, the operator will set the cutting height at 2 inches (5.08 cm). It’s early in the season and the plan is to aerate, fertilize and over seed this grass next. So we want to cut the grass very low so the fertilizer and seed will make good seed-to-soil contact.
