Technician Apprenticeship Program

No College (Full-Time Employment / $17/hr year 1, & $18/hr year 2)
Apprentice will be overseen by the Service Manager and qualified mentors. Rate of Pay: Apprentices will earn competitive wages throughout the apprenticeship with a guaranteed increase after the first year of the program and another increase at program completion. Scan the QR code below for current wage structure. In Addition, apprentices will be provided with a set of tools worth approximately $2500 to use during the duration of the apprenticeship.
At the conclusion of the program, apprentices can choose to either keep those tools, or forfeit them in exchange of a $2,500 credit to purchase new tools through John Deere.
Objective: To develop entry-level service technicians trained by qualified mentors and certified instructors. Apprentices will receive a combination of paid On-the-job Training (OJT) and paid formal instruction (both virtual and in-person) to learn all aspects of being a John Deere Service Technician without the need to attend a college program. Upon completion of the Apprenticeship Program, apprentices will have met the qualifications of a "John Deere Certified Technician" and will have completed many of the prerequisites needed to begin advanced product training at John Deere training careers.
Who: Graduating high school seniors or adults interested in changing careers who have a passion for working with agricultural technology and mechanical systems. Preference is given to those who have had mechanical technician skill training either in a vocational education program or through a previous career position.
Overview and Program Goals: The technician apprenticeship program is designed for graduating high school seniors or adults looking to start a new career working with John Deere agricultural or residential / turf equipment. Apprentices are hired as paid full-time employees and will work closely with qualified mentors in a dealership location while also receiving formal training through a combination of virtual and in-person instruction over a 2-year period. At the conclusion of the 2-year program, apprentices will have earned the title of John Deere Certified Technician, will have met the requirements for advancement to Level 2 status in the LandPro Technician Career Path Program, and will have completed many of the prerequisites needed to being their advanced product training.
Upon completion of the John Deere TECH internship, the student will:
- Complete 4000 hours of paid on-the-job training under the supervision of qualified mentors
- Complete a minimum of 170 hours of formal training including

- Product specific prerequisite courses required to begin advanced product training
- Have an understanding of labor performance, efficiency, and productivity
- Assist senior technicians with diagnostics and repairs
- Have an understanding of dealership operations including service, parts, and sales.
