How to use a pallet fork grapple
Today we’ll show you how to clean up a mess around your place using a pallet fork grapple. Because almost all of us have this problem now and then. Somewhere on your property there’s a bunch of old fence posts, or brush, or other material that just doesn’t lend itself to being cleaned up and put in a nice, tidy pile using a bucket, or front blade, or even a pallet fork.
A Frontier Pallet Fork Grapple (US CA) is a pretty low-cost solution to the problem. This handy add-on to your existing pallet fork is easy to attach or remove and turns your pallet fork into a grabbing, lifting, debris moving machine.
In this video, we’ll use a John Deere 1025R Compact Utility Tractor (US CA) with a 120R loader (US CA), a drive-over mower deck, and a Frontier AP11G Pallet Fork (US CA). To that we’ve added a Frontier PG11 Pallet Fork Grapple (US CA). We’ve also added a small Frontier LS2004 3-point Mounted Sprayer (US CA) on the back of the tractor.
And, as always, we made sure our equipment packages are properly ballasted.
Now, we said this pallet fork grapple is easy to attach. And it truly is.
After removing the mounting plate, all you have to do is mount the grapple centered on the pallet fork by hooking it over the existing flange on the pallet fork frame.
Then line up the mounting plate with the notch in the pallet fork frame, replace the bolts, and secure the entire unit with two washers and nuts. Having a portable impact wrench at hand makes all this pretty darn easy, too.
Then just run the hydraulic hoses through the support bracket on the pallet fork frame and hook them up to the third function hydraulic outlets on the loader. Then move the grapple’s locking pin from transport to operating position, and that’s it. You’re ready to get to work.
A pallet fork has always been on our Top 10 list of implements and attachments you should acquire first. But an add-on tool like this Pallet Fork Grapple really multiplies the work you can do with it and your compact tractor.
You can use the grapple to move a load of loose material by clamping down to secure it. You can also raise the grapple arm all the way and use the pallet fork in its normal operating fashion.
There’s also a Frontier PG12 Pallet Fork Grapple (US CA) that’s compatible with larger tractors, too. In the video we’re using a John Deere 5075E Utility Tractor (US CA), a 520M Loader (US CA), and the AP12G Pallet Fork. We also added a Frontier BB2072 Box Blade (US CA) on the rear of the tractor.
So let’s say you’ve got a bunch of old, discarded fence posts you need to move. Now, you could try doing this with a pallet fork by itself. But as you might imagine, that just doesn’t work very well. No balance. No support. You’d have to stack them on the pallet fork by hand and strap them down securely. And that can be a time-consuming process.
But with a Pallet Fork Grapple you can just scoop them up, clamp down tight, and away you go.
Old fence posts. A brush pile. Logs. Just about anything you can pick up with a pallet fork can be moved more securely with a Pallet Fork Grapple.
