Features
Power bulge and torque reserve pull through the tough spots

Overview
When the tractor is under load, power bulge and torque rise work together to get through the tough spots without having to downshift.
As rpm drops, the only way to maintain or increase horsepower is to provide additional torque. Whether bailing wet hay or lifting a heavy load, the additional power allows the tractor to continue performing the job without stopping. The rated economy power take-off (EPTO) speed occurs near the peak torque rise providing power when you need it in PTO applications.
Benefits
- Increased productivity in demanding conditions with more power when you need it
- More lugging ability for quicker power recovery
- Additional torque provides force to remain horsepower as engine rpm drops below rated speed
Additional Details
Horsepower and torque are mathematically related.

5M 4-Cylinder tractors provide 4% power bulge while 5E 4-Cylinder tractors provide 2% power bulge.

- The control is located on the left side of the steering column and selects forward, reverse, and neutral positions
- Ideal for rear blading and any applications that require frequent directional changes in tight spaces
- Lower engine vibration, reduced noise, less wear and tear on the engine, reduced fuel consumption, and increased operator comfort from the standard economy PTO (E-PTO)
Additional detail

NOTE: A neutral start switch requires the directional lever be in the neutral position to start the engine.
12F/12R transmission includes:
- Hydraulic wet clutches (forward and reverse)
- Maximize durability and outlast the life of any dry clutch
- When tractors are run by multiple operators with a variety of experience levels, a wet clutch is the best way to maintain transmission integrity and performance while decreasing clutch replacement costs
- Platform-mounted shift levers (four gears, three ranges)
- Two platform-mounted levers offer easy and comfortable shifting for a pleasant operator experience
- The gear-shift lever is easy to reach, and the less-used range lever is shorter. Unique knobs make it easy to distinguish between the two

- Fully enclosed, rigid shift linkages for short throw and crisp shifts enable all operators to clearly know in what range and gear they are operating
- Pressure-lubricated top shaft
- Positive park pawl: provides positive park and eliminates the need for a hand brake
- Neutral start switch
The forward lever selects one of four gears. The operator must depress the clutch while shifting. The rear lever selects one of three ranges: A, B, or C.
The PowrReverser has a built-in engagement override valve for additional safety. This valve requires the clutch pedal to be depressed one time after each engine start before the transmission will begin to operate normally, giving the operator another opportunity to put all focus on the tractor.
The speed of directional changes can be adjusted to the operator's preference or application demands with the field-installed infinitely-variable control kit.
See the PTO functional area for more information on E-PTO.

Cooling package design and serviceability
Every utility tractor producer wants to maximize uptime and appreciates enhanced performance. The cooling package on the Final Tier 4 (FT4) 4-cylinder 5E Tractors allows for easier access to and serviceability of certain critical components. This improvement to serviceability will save time and also enhance tractor performance.
The cooling package features a first-pass screen to catch larger debris, a slide-out condenser (only on cab tractors) a charge air cooler that tilts forward, and a hydraulic oil cooler that slides out halfway to both sides of the tractor.

The engine is equipped with an electronically controlled fan drive, which means that it only runs as fast as the needs of the tractor demand at that time. This is a fuel-saving device which improves hydraulic cooling and reduces the noise level for the operator. It also positively impacts total fluid efficiency.

Technology

Several defining features on 5 Series tractors maximize the performance and reliability of the emissions package. A completely shielded DOC/SCR not only protects essential components from damage but it also keeps out dirt and debris. The well-packaged and tightly organized circulation system means there is more room to work around the tractor.
Key components of the emissions system

Diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC)
Deere has chosen to utilize an exhaust filter (DOC) to reduce particulate material so the engine can operate at a level which produces less nitrogen oxide (NOx). With less NOx created, it requires less DEF to treat. The result is improved total fluid economy (diesel and DEF).
The engine is programmed to aggressively respond to changes in power needs, which can temporarily increase particulate matter. Since the exhaust filter removes particulate matter instead of the engine, the engine is left free to do what it is designed to do – deliver all of the power, torque, plus transient response needed at the exact moment needed.
Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF)
DEF is an ISO 22241 standard aqueous urea solution consisting of 32.5 percent urea and has a freezing point of -11° C (12° F). A DEF tank keeps the operator in the field longer even when the temperatures drop below freezing. The DEF tank header is integrated with a temperature sensor and plumbed engine coolant lines are used to promote thawing and prevent freezing in the tank during operation.

Mounted near the DEF tank, the engine control unit (ECU)-controlled supply module draws DEF from the storage tank and provides a pressurized flow to the dosing module. When the ignition key is off, the supply module pump will reverse direction to return any accumulated fluid back to the tank. The supply module is also fitted with a replaceable filter to prevent contaminants from entering the dosing lines. Both the supply module and dosing lines are electrically heated and controlled by the ECU to determine when diesel exhaust fluid dosing can begin.

See the ballasting and optimizing performance section of the tractors operator’s manual for additional ballasting information.
Weight, front suitcase 43 kg (95 lb) quantity of one - 08ANPR127764
Front weights provide additional ballast for the front axle

Cast Quik-Tatch suitcase weights (R127764) can be added to provide additional ballast for implements that exert heavy draft loads and require additional ballast or with hitch-mounted implements that require additional ballast to maintain steering control while transporting.
These weights are Quik-Tatch weights that require minimal effort to attach.
Pickup weights

Pickup weights are designed to add fast weight to the tractor. The following pickup weights can be mounted at the front.
Support (base weight):
- 900-kg (1948-lb) pickup weight
- 1150-kg (2535.3-lb) pickup weight
All pickup hitches can also be mounted at the rear in the 3-point hitch as a counter weight. To use the third mounting point, an additional center-link bracket is available.
1500-kg (3307-lb) and 1800-kg (3968.3-lb) pickup weights
The two weights differ only internally, therefore no external differences are visible.
The pickup weights can either be installed on the rear hitch or on the front hitch of the tractor using the center-link bracket. They cannot be mounted directly on the front base weight. A front hitch is required. The center-link bracket for installation is included.
The shape of the 1500-kg (3307-lb) and 1800-kg (3968.3-lb) pick-up weights allows for quick and safe mounting. This is ensured by an optimal alignment of the weight and the tractor along with a self-centering design.
Major benefits of the design:
- Easy and comfortable
- Less time is required
- Lower risk of injury
Due to the user-friendliness, an optimal ballasting of the tractor is guaranteed at any time.
The performance of the tractor is used to a greater extent, which leads to higher productivity and a reduction in fuel consumption.
The weights cannot be front installed in combination with Quik-Tatch front weights.
NOTE: Ballast should be limited by the lowest of either tire capacity or tractor capacity. The carrying capacity of each tire should not be exceeded. For more ballasting information refer to the Operator's Manual and ballast calculator.

Power Take-Off (PTO)
1000/540/540E - RPM Power Take-Off (PTO) kit - 08ANPBSJ10018

Overview
From mowing to baling to feed mixing and snow throwing, operators can operate an implement requiring 1000 rear PTO rpm or easily switch to 540 rpm to get the job done. Switching between 540 and 1000 rpm requires only removing a snap ring, flipping around the reversible shaft, replacing the snap ring, and shifting to the correct PTO speed. The dry cavity design makes this a less-mess, no-stress process without any oil spillage. The 5E 4-cylinder PTO rpm kits convert the factory two speed (540/540E rpm) to a two speed (540/1000 rpm), while the 5M kits upgrade the two speed (540/540E rpm) to a three speed (540/540E/1000 rpm), enabling more versatility.

Reversible stub shaft (6 and 21 splines) |
To switch between 540 and 1000 speeds, simply remove the snap ring, flip the PTO shaft, and reinstall the snap ring. The tractor PTO operates at 540-rpm speed when the six-spline end of the shaft is visible, and at 1000-rpm speed when the 21-spline end of the shaft is visible.
Benefits
- Easily switch between implements requiring 540 and 1000 rpm PTO by simply reversing the interchangeable PTO shaft – no additional shafts or parts are needed.
- Less-mess, no-stress changeover process with a dry cavity design enhances productivity and increases uptime.
- 5M Tractors retain the ability to utilize a 540 Economy (540E) PTO, translating to fuel savings.
- NOTE: See the PTO detailed feature section for more information on E-PTO.
Rear Fenders
Rear Fender Extension Kit without Work Lights - 08ANPBSJ10044

Overview
Fenders and fender extensions protect the operator, tractor and implements from dirt and debris caused from the tractor’s tires.
Stationary fenders (QuikTach™) - 08ANPBW15741

Stationary fenders are fixed to the loader mounting frames and therefore do not pivot when the tractor tires turn.
Stationary fenders offer several key advantages over traditional fenders:
-
The turning radius of the tractor is not reduced when a loader is installed
-
Fenders can be used with the tallest tires with a loader at any tread setting
-
Less fender damage occurs because the fender never becomes the widest part of the tractor when turning next to fences or walls
-
The fenders can be easily removed to make servicing the tractor easier
-
The height of the fender can be adjusted based on the height of the tire
-
Mud coverage is not compromised
